IES researcher Aleksandra Bradić-Martinović, PhD, attended a CESSDA Expert Seminar 2013: Research Data Management: Cost and Incentives in Vienna, Austria at 28th and 29th October.

The 25th CESSDA Expert Seminar looked at RDM focusing on two aspects of it: cost and incentives. Costing models for RDM are important for data collection projects, research institutes and universities as well as for funding agencies and data archives. In addition to estimating their own work in monetary terms, data archives also need to estimate the pros and cons when parts of RDM are done by data collection projects.

Incentivising RDM can be seen as an alternative to preaching RDM to researchers. Incentives should be connected, for example, on recognition, promotion and improvement.
