On 20 November 2008, the presentation of the Belgrade Tourism Development Strategy Draft was held in the Formal Hall of Old Palace. In the name of the Secretary for Economy, which is the employer, Ms Stanija Višekruna, Secretary Assistant and Professor Dejan Erić, IES Director, welcomed the participants. The Strategy was presented by Professor Jovan Popesku, PhD, Bojan Zečević, PhD, one of the Project Heads, and Mr Slobodan Mitrović, Spatial and City Planner.
The Strategy defines the strategic development trends, and its main goal is to enable the re-affirmation of tourism as a significant and attractive metropolis of Southeast Europe and the Danube metropolis until 2018. The Strategy elaboration was very important to strengthen tourist development trends, so Belgrade could get a higher position in the tourist market and become competitive with other European metropolis. In addition, this will certainly provide greater foreign tourist trade, maximum potential efficiency and a new future for Belgrade as one of the new destinations on the global tourist market.
