The first lecture was given by Mr. Bogdan Lisovolik, Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) office in Serbia. Mr. Lisovolik gave remarkable lecture on the role of the IMF in Europe and Serbia in the previous period. He presented the latest available IMF data and discussed with the participants on the best solutions to resolve accumulated economic problems in the region.

The second lecture today was given by World Bank representatives, Mr. Lazar Šestović, Country Economist for Serbia, Europe and Central Asia, and Mr. Abebe Adugna, Lead Economist for the Western Balkans. They spoke about growth potentials, limitations and possibilities of future development in the Western Balkan region.

Mr. Mihail Arandarenko, Full professor at the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University, held final lecture of the first day. Prof. Arandarenko gave his opinion on current labour market issues in the EU and Serbia. He tried to answer many challenging questions related to the key economic problems in the region. Among many topics, prof. Arandarenko enlightened the issues of active labour market policy measures, youth unemployment and ageing.

The second day of the Summer School of Economics 2013

Second day of the XVI Summer School was opened by Mr. Vladimir Pavlovic, chairman of FIMA Investment Fund. Mr. Pavlovic, as an expert for securities market and markets held lecture titled Management of Investment Funds in Times of Financial Crisis. Participants had and opportunity to hear what are the main problems and limits for development of the financial markets in the region and the experiences of leading financial institutions in a turbulent period.

The second and third lecture were given by Ms. Kosovka Ognjenovic and Mr. Marko Malovic from the Institute of Economic Sciences, Belgrade. Ms. Ognjenovic was teaching about Quantitative methods in economic research, methods widely used in modern science but sometimes not enough covered in the regular programs at our Universities. Mr. Malovic was speaking about Eurozone crisis and current problems that are shaking monetary union. The participants had an opportunity to hear some alternative views on actuel economic problems in European Union.

Final lecture was given by Ms. Jelena Lausev, from the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade. She was speaking about Public Sector Modelling in Transitioning Economies. That was remarkable opportunity to hear and discuss some fragments from the research which Ms. Lausev is performing as an LSEE Visiting Fellow.

The third day of the XVI Summer School of Economics

Ms. Žaklina Stojanović, full professor at the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University held opening lecture on the third day of the XVI Summer School of Economics. She gave lesson on importance of rural development for the Western Balkan countries. In a very interactive atmosphere of vivid discussion she gave some basic points on characteristics of rural areas in Serbia and economic policy measures that need to be adopted for their improvement.

Second lecture was given by Mr. Bozidar Laganin, director of the Serbian Serbia Investment and Export Promotion Agency. He talked about reasons for establishing export and investment agencies in the region and SIEPA results achieved in Serbia so far..

In the afternoon programme, the presentations are held by Mr. Marko Malovic and Vladimir Vuckovic. Mr. Malovic spoke about nature of economic crisis in European Union and growth characteristics in Serbia in the period of transition within the lecture titled A Crash-Course in Development Economics: Messages that didn\'t get through. Vladimir Vuckovic, member of Fiscal Council of the Republic of Serbia gave lecture titled Genuine and false ¬fiscal dilemmas in Serbia and region. He argued on limitations for performing responsible fiscal policy by the decision makers and fiscal council activities.

Fourth day of the Summer School of Economics 2013

The first two lectures today were held by Mr.William Bartlett, Senior Research Fellow in the Political Economy of Southeast Europe, LSEE. Bartlett’s lectures were mainly focused on crisis impact on the Western Balkans and perspectives for future development. He stressed importance and consequences that will have Croatia’s recent accession to EU on the region.

Afterwards, participants had an opportunity to hear Ms. Tatjana Jovanić Assistant Professor, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law. Ms. Jovanic spoke about future steps in the field of regulatory reforms that will help more competitive business environment in the Western Balkans.

Final lecture of the day four, is held by Ms. Jelena Kočović. Ms. Kočović held lecture titled Understanding the Essence of Insurance Products as the Condition for the Development of Insurance Market in Serbia.

Fifth day of the XVI Summer School of Economics

The opening lecture of the last day was held by Mr Dejan Soskic, associate professor at the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University. Prof. Soskic was talking about importance of financial stability particulary covering the isuues of eurization, public debt, external stability and inflation.

Second lecture was provided by Ms. Ismail Musabegovic. His lecture was focused on basics of investment banking and financial markets. As an experienced expert for the financial market issues, Ms. Musabegovic discussed with the students his experiences in a processes of security trading.

Final lecture was given by Proffesor Emeritus of the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University, Ms. Ljubomir Madzar. His remarkable lecture was related to main structural imbalances of Serbian economy.  Prof. Madzar argued with the participants on the reasons why Serbian economy could not achieve desirable economic goals so far.

At the end of this year\'s Summer School of Economics, deputy director, Mr. Ivan Stošić and the Organisation commetee handed out the certificates to students.

XVI Summer School of Economics opened

On 15th July 2013, the XVI Summer School of Economics was officially opened by Prof. Dejan Erić, the Institute of Economic Sciences director. In the opening ceremony, introduction speeches were held by Mr Jovan Bazić, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development and Mr Henry Bohnet, Head of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung offices in Serbia and Montenegro, main school donator.
